Lance Corporal Ernest Raymond Taylor, (??? - 27 April 1945) was a lineman who served and died in the Second World War.

Personal Life

Ernest was born to Frank and Harriet Taylor, one of nine children (Walter, Ernest, Frank, Marjorie, Rita, Annie, Wilda, Ella, ?).

In February 1943 he married Patricia King, an Englishwoman he met while overseas. Together they had two children, Raymond born in 1942 and Wilda born in 1945 after his death.

Service

Ernest joined the Canadian Army in August 1941. While serving in 4th Canadian Divisional Signals, Lance Corporal Taylor was killed on April 27 1945. That day, while conducting a line recce, his line crew ended up forward of Canadian lines. Owing to a crater in the road, L/Cpl Taylor and a Cpl Armstrong walked ahead on the road and came within 6 feet of two Germans in a slit trench before noticing them. In the ensuing shooting, Cpl Taylor was badly wounded in the abdomen and legs. He was extracted but died enroute to aid. He was posthumously Mentioned in Despatches.^[1]
