Canadian Forces Crypto Maintenance Unit was established as a unit on 1 May 1971 by amalgamating the Crypto Repair and Overhaul Facilities of the Aircraft Maintenance Development Unit (AMDU) and Crypto Maintenance Section of the Canadian Forces Distribution Authority (CFDA)[1]. It's role was to provide depot-level cryptographic equipment maintenance and installation services for the Canadian Forces and other federal government departments.
In 1991 the unit was awarded the CF Unit Commendation by the CDS.
On the 1st of April, 1995, responsibility for CFCMU transferred from ADM(Mat) to ADM(DIS).
On the 11th of April 2016, the Minister of National Defence authorized the disbandment of CFCMU in Ministerial Organization Order 2015040 as part of the creation of 76 Communication Regiment.
