Vincent Harcourt Hamilton Cadogan (18 May 1921 - 12 January 2012) was a soldier in the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals. He was a member of the second contingent of volunteers that came from Barbados to join the Canadian Army during the Second World War.[1][2]

Service

Vince, assigned Regimental Number D-116354, left Canada on 8 April 1942 and arrived in the UK on the 19th to join No. 1 Canadian Reinforcement Unit (RCCS Wing). In July 1943 he joined No. 5 Medium Wireless Section, part of 2nd Canadian Corps Signals, as an Operator (Wireless & Line). In August 1942, he was transferred to No. 5 Operating Section, also part of 2nd Canadian Corps Signals, with whom he served until the end of the war. He arrived in France 5 July 1944.

After the war, he returned to Canada and continued to serve in the Canadian Army and his regimental number was amended to be SD-116534. He received the Canadian Forces Decoration in 1954.[3]

He retired at the rank of Warrant Officer.[4]

Personal Life

Vincent married Marjorie Faith Wilkinson in April 1944. Their son Roger Hamilton Cadogen was born at Colchester, Essex on 29 Dec 1944. Vincent's other children were Sandra, Michael, Stuart, Lionel and Lorraine.

Vincent died on 24 April 2018 at Ste-Anne Hospital in Montreal Quebec. He is buried at the Champ d'Honneur National, Montreal, Quebec.

Passed away peacefully at Ste-Anne Hospital, on January 12, 2012 at the age of 90 years old. Ex husband of Marjorie Elvin Cadogan. Loving father of Roger, Sandra, Michael, Stuart, Lionel and the late Lorraine. He will also be missed by his many grandchildren and great grandchildren and his siblings Lionel Stuart of Montreal, the late Elsie of Barbados and the late Cynthia of New York.

Visitation will be held at Collins Clarke MacGillivray White Wednesday January 18, 2012 from 2 to 5 PM and 7 to 9 PM and Thursday January 19, 2012 from 1 PM followed by a Chapel Service at 2 PM.
