Early Life
On his attestation paper Anderson listed his Next of Kin (NOK) as Lt. Col. W. P. Anderson and his occupation as Civil Engineer.
Service
Anderson enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF) in December 1914. He served as an officer in 2 Canadian Divisional Signal Company and was the Officer Commanding No. 4 Section. In January 1916 he attended a Wireless course. Suffering from Laryngitis, Anderson was sent to the Michelbam Convalescent Hospital in Cimiez Nice, France from February to April 1916. Made Second in Command of the unit in May 1916 he was promoted to the rank of acting Captain. In March 1917 Anderson was placed in Command of 2 Canadian Divisional Signal Company and promoted Acting Major in April 1917 and Major in June 1917. Anderson remained with the unit throughout the war and returned to Canada in May 1919.
For his service in the Great War, Anderson was awarded the Distinguished Service Order[1] and was Mentioned in Despatches a total of three times; in June 1917[2], December 1917[3], and December 1918[4].
