702 Communication Squadron was authorized as a unit of the Canadian Forces on 1 November 1966 and located in Petawawa Ontario with a role to provide strategic communications.[1] Prior to that date the unit was known as Camp Petawawa Signal Squadron.
As part of a process known as 'devolution', 702 Communication Squadron was allocated to Land Force Central Area (LFCA) on 31 March 1998.[2]
On 3 February 2003, the unit was redesignated 2 Area Support Group Signal Squadron.[3]
