6 Signal Squadron
Active 1 August 1961 – 14 August 1968
Garrison/HQ Valcartier Quebec
Nickname 6 Sig Sqn

6 Signal Squadron was authorized effective 15 August 1961 and located at Valcartier Quebec.[1]. The unit was a field type signal squadron less the Armoured Regiment Signal Troop and Field Regiment Signal Troop. With the disbandment of 3 Airborne Signal Troop, 6 Signal Squadron also took on the role of providing airborne communication functions, including parachutists, for one of the infantry battalions with the CDA/US EDP role.

In 1964, Headquarters issued a letter[2] stating that 6 Signal Squadron was to be reduced to nil strength and classified dormant at a date to be determined by HQ Quebec Command. Concurrently, No 2 Squadron, 1 Canadian Signal Regiment was authorized at Valcartier effectively redesignating 6 Signal Squadron. For reasons currently unknown, this change did not occur and 6 Signal Squadron continued as an active unit.

In 1968, with the creation of 5e Groupement de Combat, the unit was redesignated 5e Escadron des Transmissions du Canada (5e ET du C)[3].
