Heavy Line Troop, No. 2 Squadron 1st Canadian Signal Regiment became the independent unit 1 Line Troop on 1 September 1970 under Canadian Forces Communication Command.[1] In the summer of 1975, the Troop became a unit of 70 Communication Group, Trenton Ontario. 1 Line Troop was reorganized under the command of 76 Communication Group on 1 July 1983.
In 1997 the Minister of National Defence authorized the disbandment of 1 Line Troop[2][3] and it became 1 Line Squadron, a sub-unit of 79 Communication Regiment.
